Description : The herb of Valeriana Wallichii is an erect perennial plant that normally has a height of four feet. The leaves are divides and the shape is of heart whereas, the flowers of the plant are pink or white. The roots of this herbal plant are hairy and are usually collected in the season of autumn from the two years old plant. The color of the rhizomes is greenish brown and is quite and is quite tough internally. Due to many properties, this plant is used in the preparation of various medicines.
Uses : It is anti spasmodic, stimulant, carminative and stomachic. It is useful in diseases of eye, blood and livers. It is used as a remedy for hysteria, hypochondriasis, nervous unrest and emotional stress. Also useful in clearing voice and acts as stimulant in advance stage of fever and nervous disorder. The paste of roots mashed in water is applied on forehead to alleviate the pain. Externally, the paste of its roots is applied in wounds for better healing. It is useful in diseases of eye blood, livers. Valerian is also used for conditions connected to anxiety and psychological stress including nervous asthma, hysterical states, excitability, fear of illness (hypochondria),headaches, migraine, and stomach upset. Sometimes, valerian is added to bath water to help with restlessness and sleep disorders.
